Police have reported that during an early morning raid in addresses throughout the Camden Borough they made several arrests on the grounds of Fraud. About 30 police officers were involved going to 6 address and arresting suspects aged between 17 and 26.
This scam is fairly new and involves the scammers cold calling their victims usually elderly and claiming to be from their bank or police offices and stating that their has been a problem with their account and they need the account and pin numbers and they would send someone round to pick up the bank card by courier, usually an unaware innocent taxi driver will be involved. Then the scammers usually run by criminal gangs go to town with the unsuspecting victim`s cards.
In London since 2011 this practice has left their victims out of pocket to the tune of approximately £3 million pounds. Residents of Camden have been the hardest hit in London, but the police are fighting back and have made a number of arrests recently. (source: www.hamhigh.co.uk)
